Sharpening an Eskimo Mako?
« on: Dec 16, 2003, 07:51 PM »
I dulled my dad's Eskimo Mako this past weekend and am curiuos if anyone has any tips on sharpening these bad boys (I have never sharpened an auger before).  Someone told me they have rounded blades and it would be difficult so I figured I would seek advice before attacking my dad's auger.

Thanks

Don't do it! Unless you really know what you are doing and have the machines to do it most likely you will screw it up. The blade is ground to a certian angle and it might be a hollow grind and doing it by hand will not make it cut like it did. It might not even cut at all. Get online and order a new blade or find out if someone in your area sharpens auger blades. Take the 1 wk punishment from your dad, say you will never do it again and when you get the new blades on he'll let you use it again.
GOOD LUCK
