Jiffy mo 30 leaking gas
« on: Jan 02, 2014, 06:17 PM »
I have an 85 jiffy mo 30. I had a new carb put in 2 years ago.  This year I have noticed gas leaking out from the exhaust port.  Just sitting there the inside of the exhaust port is wet with gas but when it's running I notice gas dripping from the exhaust port.  What would cause this?

Most likely the needle valve is not closing 100% against the seat.  It's a maintenance item,  some have to be every few years.  Mines gone about 5 years and holding.  Not a hard job,  drop the bottom of the carb, 4 torx screws, carefully remove diaphram(pay attention which side is up).  Remove the small screw over top of the bar that holds the little spring and "flipper" , the needle is about 1/2 inch long,  The rubber seat("O" ring) is in there.  Again pay attention, it has 2 sides.  Replace both, reassemble the rest and off you go.

x2, the diaphragm is likely stretched out/distorted. before removing try pushing up on it ever so slightly, if it goes up and down its probably ok just swap out the diaphragm and gasket.

Very likely, pay attention which way the seat goes in,  one side has circular ridges, the other side is smooth.
