2016/2017 Lake Louise reports
« on: Nov 03, 2016, 12:07 PM »
Let's get this year rolling.  From the looks of the web cam the ice has been locked up to at least army point now for over a week and a half.  It sounds like another forum member was able to walk to army point and reported 4 inches of ice with possible open water out in the main lake.  Good luck to everyone this year.

Was out on the ice Saturday. I too found the ice to be about 7" thick. Plenty of 22-23 inchers, but no big hook ups.

I'm guessing with the temps they've been having there should be close to ten inches by the weekend.  I think Im going to drag the shack out week after next.

It's looking good, not super cold, but no snow and it's been well below freezing the last few weeks.

I ventured about 40 yards and it was still about 7 inches.

Thinking about heading up this next weekend and putting the shack out.  Any body punch holes through the ice this weekend?  I figure there should be enough ice around the shorelines, but don't plan on venturing all over the lake.

Iced and a couple others said there was a suburban towing a trailer with four wheelers that drove out to Larson bay.  I think I'm heading up Thursday to drag the shack out they said there was 9 inches of ice with pressure ridges all around the islands.  Seems just a little sketchy to be driving on the lake this early.

Parts of the lake just froze last week.   Won't be long before someone goes through.

Oh I know the complete lack of common sense is going to get someone killed.  Has anyone been over to Susitna yet.  I know it generally freezes before Louise.  When we were there duck hunting in October all the protected bays had at least 5 inches.

You mentioned a webcam of the lake. Do you have a link or info so I can do a Google search? All the cams I can find aren't pointing at the lake.

Does John let you pay to park at the lodge even when they are closed? I thought they did, but can't remember exactly.

Yes you can.  It's best to pay for the whole season just in case he's not around when you are there.  I don't know what this years prices are.

Thanks, I thought we could.

I had talked to him about a year long pass. I was going to keep an ice house at his place throughout the summer. I think he said that was $300. This was last spring though.

Haha, I have a few friends with places on Lake Louise, as well as friends of friends, so that is ultimately what I am hoping for. I do like the security of having it at the lodge though. Knowing someone is usually around.

I will be watching this thread all year, as well as contributing some brag posts (hopefully) :)

I am craving some LL updates! I have a trip planned on Dec 10th. I have a family friend who has a nice cabin on one of the islands I will be staying in. Much nicer option than the bringing the Arctic Oven out.

I'm still on the ice coming home wend.  Lots of caribou around had two buddy's come up this weekend and they each got one in like 20 minutes.  Now I'm just watching their gut piles in hopes a wolf comes out.

Awesome news about the Caribou! Me, my brother, and dad all have our tags still and I was planning on bringing the rifle. Hope they hang around another couple of weeks...

How's the fishing?

Got a big pack of wolves that just moved into the area today.  Still saw some bou throughout the day.  Fishing has been decent the couple times  I haven't been hunting.

Did anyone forget a couple burbot in a white trash bag recently.  If someone can tell me where I found them I'd be happy to return them if not I'm eating them.
