When will have our fishable ice here in northern Iowa? I'm guessing Nov. 25th.

Depends on where you live. I live in the Cedar Rapids area and my guess is Dec 12. But wouldn't it be nice to think Thanksgiving weekend! I WOULD LOVE IT!!!!

My guess is the 2nd week of Dec.Turkey day weekend would be better but I won't get that lucky. I hunt 1st shotgun season so anytime after that would be good to. It would be a perfect day to tag out opening morning the drill some holes in the afternoon.

Water on Big Spirit back up to mid 40's and looks like mild weather next week. I am gonna guess December 10th but hope for Nov 26th

what day does thanksgiving fall on??? i'm guessing it will be the saturday after...and i'll be on morse or elm. i usually feel a little braver when the 2 or 3 inches im on is only sitting on 5 feet of water.

spud, rope, picks, life vest, 6" hand auger, and 5 gallon bucket with 2 rods, marcum, and tackle bag.....no more, no less....
last year morse was 2 1/2-3" the sunday before thanksgiving...5" on thanksgiving...and 8 1/2 the sunday after....when it locks up, it goes quick. same with elm, and rice lakes...

Whats your definition of fishable ice? I saw someone fishing on less then 2" last year.

that's your call not mine. I see guys on ice I won't fish all the time. My pucker factor starts to drop a tad at 4"

I'd have better luck running through Hell wearing gasoline underwear. Closest she gets to ice is in a rum & coke.

I hear ya. been trying to get my wife to come out but she's resisting. I know if I can get her catch a fish she'll be hooked

i just got mine hooked she caught her first inland rainbow trout and now she talkin bout ice fishing. but she said she wont go out there until the ice is 5 inches so that is all good. gives me plenty of time. last yr was out on 2half day after thanksgiving in a channel hope to do that again this year

Its not north of HWY 20 but i have been fishing around Des Moines for the first time around Dec 11-12th for the past two years. Northern Iowa will have fishable ice a week before that so lets call it Dec 4-5th north of HWY 3/

I hear ya man, I just got my Otter put together today and am dying to use it. Oh well, bow season will keep me going another week or two.

i got the gills and perch covered...but could use a lesson or 12 on the specs....
