Allagash Traps made in Readfield, Maine are some of the best.  Well designed, top quality hardware, and an adjustable drag that many others do not have.  The only knock is that they are unfinished, yet cost almost as much as Jack Traps.

I have jacks for myself and bought both of my boys allagash traps. The jacks come with a much better finish, taller, larger reels and the allagash come with better features, drag feature, stainless flag spring, cork hook holder. They both catch fish and are of excellent quality IMO.

I personally like Heritage but I would say any trap with a spring operated metal rod flag is the best.  i personally dont like the ones with spring steel because it gets messed up and its tough to add lights to them if you fish at night.  Also the ones with springs stand straight up, they dont just flop over like Jack traps.  Heritage and indian hills are much less expensive than jack traps and use better components IMO

Heritage all the way.  You can get them refinished or in finished.  I like to get them unfinished so I can stain varnish them to colors that I like.

Moosehead traps are nice too.  That was my first set, but I didn't like the spring steel flopping around when the flag would go.up.

Honestly, I got jack traps and some other store brands. Your better off saving your money and getting polar tipups with good heavy braided line. And get the Polars with the 500 yards spools and keep it simple. Put your money into good leaders and hooks!!

Jack traps are junk.  Get over it everyone has stated they're over priced.  Not to mention horrible customer service, especially if you go to the shop.

No they broke and he fixed them, and the varnish all wore off and he copied the jacks and redid them up to look like jacks. Then he will tell you jacks suck  :cookoo:

I happen to own Indian Hill.  I will tell you all this... Fish a trap that that works for you, one that fits your budget, and whatever puts fish on the ice.

Either heritage lakers or HT polars are the only tip ups ill buy.i like heritage better, but the polars have the advantage of being able to see the t bar spinning above the ice.
