Some of the original tipups I made 25 yrs ago have froze up because some of the oil got absorbed into the wood which let water into the chamber and would freeze, the fix was to add some grease which fixed the problem. The plastic traps will not absorb the grease. We also sell the grease for the wood ones if it needs it.. I have ice fished for over 50 years and used many different makes and types of ice fishing tipups and under the right conditions have found that all ice fishing traps will freeze including ours.
