Perfered Bait?
« on: Jan 15, 2009, 06:58 AM »
I was wondering what bait of choice everyone has. Up here in the U.P of Michigan we have limited choices. we have live and dead baits. Live bait is mainly small sucker minnows or golden shiner minnows, and dead bait is usually smelt. I my self perfer golden shiners, I feel they give off a better flash.

Do some research on the body of water you're fishing.  Find out what species of bait fish are in there.  Then go from there.  Here in nh I actually prefer smelt over shiners.  (we can use both live).

6-7 inch suckers, or shiners. Ive had luck with both and they both have they're ups. If we could still trap minnows in NY id be using big creek chubs  :'(
