My guess is quite a ways!

I don't know. I'm in Texas and I've got ice. Bought a ten pound bag yesterday...
I usually make a pilgrimage to the old home place in PA in February to ice fish. This year due to some pressing personal business it looks like I won't be able to go. I guess that might be good or bad. I won't get to ice fish, but if the winter is as warm as NOAA says it's going to be, the ice might not be safe by March, if it even exists.
According the interwebs the googles says record high temps in Pittsburgh today. That stinks.
Thanks for the good post. I'm curious to see where the dividing line between ice fishing and dreaming about it is today...

Uncle shortly it was 68 today in Beaver Co. Pennsylvania. Picnic weather.
-
Buffalo NY has not had any measurable snow as of this date. This last happened in the 1890's. Not a good sign. Apparently northern Minnesota has some ice. Here in Ontario you have to go north to New Liskeard, about 7 hours N of Toronto, to find any ice, Temagami to find snow. Guess I'll be doing more steelheading if no ice.
-
I go WEST from the Denver area. Been fishing for the last month. Had 8" yesterday at 9,000'.
Sorry to hear you haven't had that old Polar Vortex this year. We knew El Nino was coming, so there were bound to be some impacts out of the ordinary. Hang in there.

Hey Unc! put yer ice in my martini and drive me to the Arctic Circle. We might be able to drill a hole there. Unless Al Gore has monkeyed that up too.... @)

About an hour north of duluth here, we have some ice on ponds and small lakes. Not really worth the drive.
-
I was fishing steelhead on the Manistee in Michigan for the last two days and it was 50*!!!! ;D
-
We have 7-8 inches on small/medium lakes....54 deg north. North/Central Sask.+Manitoba.
Big lakes not too safe just yet...
-
In the upper midwest about the 48° line. Right around the U.S. Canadian border west of Lake Superior. Temps are going to finally drop down below freezing for the highs starting this Wednesday with lows around 10°f with any luck we might have some ice by next weekend. Around here just about all small lakes that were frozen over are now back to open water. To me it just means that the good early ice fishing will run later into the season than normal. So when things normally slow down the end of January, good fishing should go right into mid February.

I'd say somewhere near the Arctic circle at this point.
Checked the forecast for the northeast and based on the current figures, we won't have freezing temps anytime before Christmas!
makes me kind of glad I haven't put my kayak in storage yet.

Do any good?
Not super, but did get about 1/2 dozen over 2 days.
It was awesome that we had entire stretches of water to ourselves though.
Lost a few good ones as well.

Your going the wrong way. Go south, the south pole has more ice than the north pole.

Was out on 4.5" ice with 6" snow yesterday. Had we not gotten this snow, we'd have been sitting pretty by monday with these low temps. Now, not so much...

I've been ice fishing here in South Dakota since the end of November, but only on the smaller sloughs and gravel pits. Lows in the negatives tonight, so we should be making some more good ice.

What is your location?
Hmm, was listed as Iron Range, MN not sure where it went. I'll fix it.

Western Montana has ice!
