Title: Jigging line
Post by: Esox fisherman on Jul 31, 2020, 06:09 PM: What lb test of what line do you guys recommend for jigging i want something that will work for perch but will work fine for pike and yes i use a steel leader

But I guess you could use a small diameter super line, less then 4 lbs diameter ..good ball bearing swivel and some 2lbs or less fluorocarbon for your perch set up . Superline/braids present some problems in the cold/outside a house. On another note the purchase of some good reels is one of the best investments that will give you many years of returns.

Post by: SLAYERFISH on Aug 01, 2020, 12:06 PM: I use the same setup for all my ice fishing. 6 lb Nano or Suffix 832. Nano doesn't like freezing so unless its nice out or in a hut I go with Suffix. Then I use a barrel swivel and about 18" floro leader. Anywhere from 4-12 lb leader depending on the quarry.

Heck I catch perch all the time on a 12lb leader. Too lazy to switch it out. ;D

Doesn't freeze up because of the coating.
Not perfect but no worse than mono for icing up.

Post by: skifisher on Aug 03, 2020, 09:46 PM: I a fan of a hybrid line. I use YoZuri Hybrid in 4# or 6# test on my rigs, and fish outside. I like the thin diameter and the way it performs in depths to 50 feet. I’ve have had very few issues with the line freezing or coiling.
Any deeper, braid with a straight flouro leader would be the way to go. Good Fishing! Ski

the ultra 8 is smoother, both have excellent abrasion resistance - ice easily clears from line by pinching between your nails and pulling. It doesn't ice up any more than mono

I use a small swivel to a flouro leader as mentioned above. If you buy a 125yd spool it will last you forever lol I backfill my reels with about 125ft of cheap 6lb or 8lb mono, 125' of good braid, and use a 2-4' leader

About the strongest mono out there...
