Title: Alaskan weekend on the ice
Post by: Barleydog on Mar 09, 2004, 04:41 PM
Well I finally got out this weekend and thought I'd share some photos from the last frontier.  We were fishing near the center of the state, located 3 1/2 hours from Fairbanks.  Caught around 5 fish, nothing to exciting, but consistant action.  The biggest was a chunky 28" fish that almost didn't make it through the hole due to the auger didn't clear the hole out "all the way!"  Lost a HOG at the hole using a 8 lb. leader, go figure!  Didn't get any Burbot fishing due to the temps at -22 and WINDY!  Great view and a great trip! -Barleydog

What a beautiful area. I hope to make it up there some day. I had a chance to go a few years ago, but elected against it due to other comitments. Now I wish I would have gone. Maybe after Canada this spring.  ;)

In that first picture it looks like the lake got a sudden cold snap and it froze the waves just as they crashed into shore.  Fantastic pictures!  I love the north!  And to use those augers with extensions you have to do the old deep knee bend-high head lift technique to keep clearing the hole.  Ya gotta be tough to live in the north! :flex:  And you drill as few holes as possible.

Great pics and nice lakers.  I miss Alaska, made it up there for 10 days in 2002.  Hope to return and do more hiking and fishing.  Nothing like waking up and seeing a glacier out the window. Tight lines.
