add 6 feet of leader line to your tip-up line. Tie a trebble hook to the line put a small split shot a foot above the hook and your ready to role.

depends where you are... I use a decent leader of 10 to 12lb Flouro line and a #2 I think Gamagatsu hook, red or chartreuse with a silver shiner works best around here...

Not enough ice or time... not necessarily in that order.

I run about 5 feet of 10 pound mono leader and use a #6 treble hook. Add sinkers a foot above the hook.

I like to add a small gold or silver blade for a little more flash

make sure the trigger is set light so the fish can;t feel it
if 1 fish farts it gives them all away

It depends if you are planning on keeping them. If not go with a single hook. If the best tasting fish in the lake is your choice, use a treble hook. Now I use 5 ft. of flouro, a three way swivel with a 6 inch piece to a bell sinker and a snelled red # 6 Eagle Claw to the other eye, hook the shiner through the dorsal. Use a button to mark the depth. Check it, sometimes the will hold it and not trip the flag.
It's all a part o' fishin', son

Just curious what the "button" is to mark the depth. I am also new to tip up fishing and would like all the help as possible.

Thanks..

Small marker bobber, something that doesn't float and sinks freely, can tie a quick loop knot in your gut line, keep it simple.
