Here's a method used as a strike indicator that has worked for me. Originally it was an adaptation for night fishing where one had either chemical glow sticks or other light up source attached to the line to operate as a strike indicator. The bobber, bead, or other object with some weight that reflects a fish bite on the lure. What one is looking for is often the slack line after a fish bite or the actual tug. That weighted strike indicator will be much more obvious over that of just the rod.
It's the line that is transmitting to the rod. It's better to see that transmission to a visual indicator and not hinder your rod's ability to actually control your jigging.
