Yeah I used a few of the 1000's last year and love them ice fishing or open water fishing. I think it's a great deal for $30!! I purchased a few new 500's this winter and I'm excited to use them.

I started using these reels last year, for $30 bucks they rock...smooth drag and
worked well on some very cold days.

I just got another 500 to put together a deep water panfish Slayer. It's mounted on a Frabill Amplifier 28" ML rod with a retractable Lakco Spring bobber. I tried it in the boat and She drops the buckshot spoon like a rocket and now that it is relubed with the frabill subzero lube, it is even smoother then it was to start with, what an Awesome set up !!  :icefish:

Can't bring myself to try one.  I'm VERY happy with my Tica Cetus GV500's.  Just ordered two more tonight.

I would have to agree one of the best reels out there!!!!!!

Use two of them for ice fishing and three 1000's on soft water. No complaints. Fin

You can't really go wrong with any Shimano reel. I use them exclusively.

I have a few of these reels now and I absolutely love them.   The drag is outstanding and it's just an overall great reel for the price.

I have one and I love it. As others have said the drag is super smooth and it just has a solid, well built feel to it.
