Any info on this rod?
« on: Feb 13, 2013, 07:44 PM »
It's missing an eye between the reel and the tip, Rod is steel, Reel is cast aluminum I think.

All I know is one thing for sure- That thing is old!
The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable,
a perpetual series of occasions for hope.

I don't know a lot about them but i do know that people used to use them for perch fishing in deep water . I do not remember where I seen it but you can still get new ones . The big reel on the was to take up line faster .

The reel is an old school aluminum raft reel. That's all I got though.

That's a start. The reel is bolted to the reel seat but the reel seat doesn't have the screw to tighten down on a reel like the old rods had. Square nuts on the bolts holding the reel on. I think it may have been a lake trout rig.

I remember actually using them but haven't seen one since the 70s and they were at least 20yrs old then. Were great for Smelt and deep Perch on Gull. Actually just an oversized Schooley. Probably could be a decent seller if someone marketed one these days

It's called a Swish Rod, they were a great rod for panfish and I heard they are actually in production again but I can't confirm that. Search Swish Rod on eBay and you'll be pleasantly surprised at how much they're worth.

On my 2 Swish rods the handle has a hole drilled through it. A bolt passes through the middle of the reel and is secured to the rod with a nut. Not a very clear description. Best just to go to: www.swishrod.com
and watch the little video. The rods are assembled by disabled vets. Nice to have something American made.
I may not agree with what you say, but I will fight for your right to say it....

I found out what the reel is. I got it for free so I guess the price was right.
