Lake Winnipeg Ice

I've been hibernating for the last 3 weekends because of the brutal cold, but looking ahead, the forecast calls for sun and warmer weather. Gonna try and get out to Chalet beach but was wondering if I'm going to need an extension on my auger or not... Has anyone been out this weekend?

Depends, last weekend I fishing around the willow island area and I didn't need an extension, I had less than an inch to spare.

If you have an extension, it is beyond me why you wouldn't bring it... it's getting near the end of the winter, you will need it!!! My extension is an expandable one and is on my auger always, that way it is always where I need on... on my auger!!

Thanks to all. Rather than be that guy that drives an hour and finds out the ice is too thick I just went and got one. Looking forward to getting out this weekend.

Also consider the snow covering that you can dig down through now will thaw with any upcoming warm weather then re-freeze ... you eventually will have to drill through it all!
