Anyone know how wide the gimble mounting holes are on a helix 5?

Interesting that the install manual doesn't show the dimensions or include a template:

It just instructs you to use the bracket to determine where to drill the holes.  Practical, but only if you already know it will fit!  And how do you know it will fit?  Assemble it and move it around:

Quote
Place the assembled control head in various locations to determine the bestmounting location with the following requirements:
-a stable, protected surface to protect the control head from excessive waveshock, vibration, and water
-sufficient space for the control head tilt range
-visibility during operation, as well as easy installation and removal
-access above and below the mounting surface to pass the cables through to the control head
-space for the 1" (25 mm) cable hole, under the bracket or 2" to 4" (50to 100 mm) behind the chosen mounting location

Doesn't help if it's not in your hand.

I bought a ram mount for my helix 5 and on the description from ram's website is "The RAM-202-153-202U consists of a round 2.5" diameter round base (Universal AMPs Hole Pattern), double socket arm and 1.5" x 3" rectangular base. The rectangular base contains four holes with a center to center pattern of 1" x 2.5". For most applications, mount will support up to ten pounds." It fits perfectly.

That's it, measured 1x2.5' on mine....I've always done as the install sheet says, lay the gimble on the surface, mark the holes, drill and install screws

Sorry. I ment the mounting holes on the sonar itself, where you would attatch the sonar to the gimbal mount, not attatching the gimbal mount to a base. Its probably in the 6-7 inch range would be my guess
