I have a DeWalt 985 ..along with 8" K-drill and a Gen 1 Clam Plate ..was wondering if any member has had direct experience with this set up ? My go to set up is a Milwaukee 2704/Clam Plate 4.0..and 8" K-Drill ..But I have the Clam Plate 1.0 and the Drill w/4ah batteries . My initial thoughts is may be a tad under powered ...I have run a 6" SM Lazer on the DeWalt/Clam Plate  w/o any worries . Just curious .

DeWalt 985? I believe you need 991 or 996.
Mostly ice fishing Lake Simcoe in southern Ontario, Canada, for lake trout (lakers), lake whitefish (whities), and jumbo yellow perch:-)

Worked quite well on my plate a 6" lazer in 12 inches of ice ..

Anybody know if the 991 or the 996 will fit the Gen 1 Clam Plate?

The 996 will fit just fine but the auxiliary handle works better than any other drill out there you can position it in any angle that fits you comfortably  dont need the clam plate with the 996. Go to store that has one on display to look at and handle it just like picking out a gun it needs to feel comfortable in both hands and get batteries that are at least 5amh  it will run all of the new auger bits made for drills. I run a 7in lazer hand auger bit that cost me 81.00dollars and flies thru the ice. I sold a jiffy 3hp stx stealth 2 stroker after I bought the 996 and lazer auger. I will never go back to a gasser auger.
