Flying with gear

Son and I are considering a trip to Idaho to lake cascade next winter and would be flying. My question is the best way to take some gear with us. It would be a guided trip.

Send your gear by UPS (or similar) to your final destination, would be the cheapest and easiest.

Usually the guide provides much of the gear. He should provide the auger, tip-ups, bait and bucket, a decent jig pole and possibly a flasher. If you want your own jig pole and flasher that's about all you should need to bring.

That was the gear I was thinking of. My vexilars and a couple rods and tackle.

I've flown with my open water stuff before. I had a travel rod and some terminal tackle in my carry-on. I make sure not to take anything I would be upset to lose, but I've never been questioned before or had a problem. I would think you could bring a rod bag/locker with some tackle and put it in the overhead and shove your vex under the seat as your personal item. Who needs clothes anyway.
