Ok im down to 2  the marcum lx-3tc or the vexilar fl-18 everybody just tell me one or the other please now!

Never used a Marcum or seen one live on the ice but I will say I owned vex for years (before going to a Humminbird) and all of my buddies own Vex (6 guys I know).  Not one of us has had an issue with vexilar.  The worst I have seen is a shot ducer but the buddy this happened to beats the hell out of his stuff.  Vexilar is very dependable and will provide years of worry free use.  But like I said I have no idea about Marcum as I have never used one.

One other thing to consider is if you fish with a group of guys and what they are running.  The one issue my vex buddies run into is an IR war when they get 3 or 4 in the same area.  This is the main reason I went to another unit.  We can now run 3 vex and my bird side by side with little issue.  I have no interference and with three vex units it is manageable.  When we got 4 vexilars together it was a mess.  We have a large wheel house so we frequently fish with 3 or 4 guys in a small area.

Bottom line......both units will mark fish and improve your chances on the ice.  Good luck.

dude, who dresses you in the morning? Lol you should see by now that both units work for different people. Look at the pros and cons guys have given and decide what will work best for YOU. I vote VEXILAR.....I couldn't resist....good luck and learn to use whichever one you choose.

i'd love to find one to have as a back up.  the problem i've seen with them is the older units go absolutely bananas in a crowd.

When the bottom mark starts twitching with an LX-3, its likely something alive down there. When the bottom line twitches on an FL-18, well, they do that all the time for no good reason.

this is very true.

There all good units they all catch fish some just last longer than others .  Just like my old dodge truck 300000 miles and still working hard with the only thing I've replaced was the alternator  Just wanting to start a ford Chevy dodge debate LOL not really LOL

You can get an FL-18 Genz pack for $349 new from a few online outlets right now. That's where I'd go. Free shipping for some too. (Reeds)  I love my 18 and might get another.

I think your making a great choice almost all ice guide services use the 18 and they are built to last and I no several guys that prefer the 18 over the 20 and the 22  again Great choice  ;D

Ya I have a fl8 with the genz pack it works good and it's pretty tough the kids use it and have dropped out of the truck several times and it hasn't broke yet. But you can always buy a pro or ultra for it later fairly cheap

I have owned a Humminbird for the last 4 years and recently switched over to the Vexilar FLX 28 so I have joined that bandwagon, but.........

It seems to me, at least in Iowa, I have seen more guys moving towards Marcum than the other two brands....Now that could just be coincendence that I'm talking to guys moving over to Marcum but who knows.

Dumb thread, obviously everybody is going to say they like what they own best.

I've owned or used them all, they all work.

Currently running an FLX-28 and an HB Ice 35.
