Brand New Vexilar Unit in Developement?
« on: Jan 26, 2012, 06:40 PM »
So I was telling a fishing buddy of mine that I sent my LX-5 back to reeds to upgrade to the LX-7, I then went on to tell him about all the things the LX-7 can do. Ok, so I might have been bragging just a little bit but im super excited about the LX-7.

My friend then told me that I should have waited to do anything because he supposedly knows an employee at Vexilar and they are developing a new machine that will make the LX-7 look like the lowrance green box. When I asked for details he said "My buddy told me he cant be specific because they dont want word out, but he said that nothing will compete with it."

I dont want to start any rumors and what my friend told me could and probably is total BS, but I just wanted to make a post and see if anyone else has heard anything like this.

I have nothing against vexilar if they come out with something new that is great! That is how the industry seems to work ...........But at the end of the day I prefer to support American made products and from what I understand vexilar is assembled in America...............

Vexilar actually has an open water unit called the Edge3. Not sure how the unit operates but if they can improve upon this unit and gear it towards hard water, they actually might have something going on.

Marcum is made in New Hope MN, Vex is assembled in Bloomington MN... I think that's awesome. :)

Vexilar is bound to come up with an answer to the LX-7. It's just a matter of time.

With Technology these days. Companies are trying to get one up on another. As long as we purchase the equipment there will always be machines getting better and better, JMO.

I didn't think asking people on ice shanty whether or not what someone told me was a fact or fiction was starting a rumor, hence why I expressed what he said was most likely BS. With all the die hard vex heads here I thought for sure if there was any truth to my friends statement someone would be able to shed some light on this.

Vexilar is bound to come up with an answer to the LX-7. It's just a matter of time.
So far that answer is to continue to provide working units based on sound technology that work great right outta the box, instead of providing bells and whistles and a machine that allready has 12 someodd versions of software being tested to "fix" the $700 mistake they rushed to put on shelves.
All I know is when I plop my FL-18 on the ice , it works, plain and simple. The dial doesn`t stop spinning mid-use and snap off because of a weak manufacturing point, and it doesn`t require to be sent back repeatedly for "software upgrades" . (BANDAIDS)
Talk all day about how this ones better than that one, target separation, watts, etc, I`ll be fishing instead of talkin.

I would just wish that any of them would come down in price just like any other appliance or electronic device. Almost every other "contraption", when it first hits the market, is priced out of this world. Then after a couple of years, they become affordable for just about anybody. I understand a little about the whole supply and demand thing but, of all of them, locators seem to stay closely priced where they started. I bought my FL-8 over 15 years ago for $320 and it's still hovering around the $300 mark + or -......... ???

Sorry, a little off topic, but the "new development" thing raised my curiosity.

I'll tell ya what it has to have for me is GPS and lake maps on a high def screen.  Might as well incorporate a camera option as well.

Something like taking a HB700 series and adding enhanced flasher capabilities and external input for camera.

When ya been making the same units for 15-20 years and just adding a new pack for it to attach on its quite easy to never need a band aid because no new technology is being produced. Dealing with glitches is part of owning cutting edge technology, you just got to make sure the company will stand behind its product and take care of the customer.

I would love to see vexilar come out with a new unit that's got a 10inch led screen that would allow side by side digital vertical flasher and underwater camera on the same screen.
