Local ice is nice! (2.8.20)
« on: Feb 08, 2020, 03:09 PM »
Only 24 minute drive from home. Met up with Shaun and got some gills, a bow, and a walter.  Shaun got a nice crappie, too. Finally feels like winter!

Flags up, gentlemen!!!

Tough bite but got a lot of gills and the bonus crappie.  Good to get out.  Almost gave up on this ice season.

Winter is back and it looks like you guys enjoyed your day on the ice.
I met up with some of our ice shanty elders today and got skunked. Maybe the retirement curse rubs off on those around him...  ;D

It was a fun day, but slow.  Man, that retirement curse is brutal!   ;D

I hope this week will add to the ice so more areas are accessible at the place you guys were fishing.

Ice is good, around 5” where we were, lots of slush on top.  Edges were fine.

Brutilized! I don't feel so bad. I fished solo for 6 hours, 1 slimer and a short eye. Marked a bunch during the 1/2 hour window but they weren't picking up what I was putting down.
You need to find a job!!!

Good report Nate sounds like a fun day! Gotta love the drive!

Glad you got out early to that spot Nate! Was excited to see you that Walter catch! Crazy how many fish you were marking huh?

Definitely nice to drive less than a half hour.   ;D.

I agree with Brewski — Slayer, you might need to find something part time, or at least volunteer at a library or something.  The curse is real, and seems to be spreading...kinda like that Mexican beer virus.   :o

Yeah it was slow, but lots of marks.  I think those fish have been pounded the past week, they’re just not interested.

Nice meeting you yesterday, it was kind of slow. I just barely beat the skunk with 1 slimer.

Good looking fish Nate.

Yeah, If you don't at least pick up something part time we might not ever get any good fishing again. It was great company & a beautiful day out!

The curse is real. I didn't even make it to the darn fishing spot after a two hour drive in a car and an hour and a half on a 4 wheeler last time I was with him.  ;D

You never know -- stranger things have happened!  Drastic measures might be required to break this curse...

I have some Odd13 IPA that I could bring to the next outing...maybe we could get him to drink one or two.  ;D

Good just because I showed the spot don't mean people are catching them! :D

Those fish are hard to coax, i went out with some friends and they couldn't buy a bite for two hours I showed up caught 2 real quick and then nadda. I love how fish educate them selves to not easily take. It is what I love about fishing the challenge! Glad you caught some.

Yep, it was a tough bite.  I got the walleye on a rattlin' flyer, but all the bluegill were coaxed using ultra finesse.  I was using a 1/32 oz VMC tugsten fly jig, and Shaun was using similar downsized patterns.

Yea, I kept downsizing until I was using some very small tungsten, no soft plastic, and a single spike.  I probably caught 15-20 by the time I left.  I had to watch the line for takes and focus on moving the second fish down in the top pair.  I had to get that second fish to move up past the top one then stop wiggling the jig and wait for the take.

Sweet bud! Yea, I told my buddies to put on a orange tungsten, smallest he got tipped with waxie. They only wanted the smallest stuff and the hits were so subtle that I had to use my tickle stick rod since it specializes in really finesse bites.  I had friends go out there yesterday and try to catch some between 8 of them only one rainbow trout was caught. The rainbows are taking over the lake haha.

Went out last night, it was tent city on your spot  :roflmao: :roflmao:  Area farther East where we've been fishing was open water. Found an area with a 6ft change of depth, got 4 short eyes and missed a couple more. It's amazing what you can find by reading a map  ;)

Nice, good to hear you found some eyes!  Yeah, that open water is annoying.  Right where some of my favorite humps are.  Oh well.
