Read up on the YNP wolf reintroduction.....

Do you have any links to articles? Most things ive read discuss the trophic cascade effect that the wolves had on the park, and how that positively effected a lot of predator-prey relationships as well as allowed overgrazed areas to rebound

Hunting them might be fun, i'm not big on hunting predators though.

honestly i wouldnt hunt them. I dont think i could be ok with eating K-9 relatives.

Sweet pelts though !

You guys inCO.have to stand your ground with this issue.dont let the city people who s time in the outdoors is a koa. If things are left to a vote you will certainly end up with wolves.dont forget the disney crowd think wolves and deer are friends.in 1994 we lost most of our trapping ,we cant hunt bears with dogs and our fish and game was changed to fish and wild life, with a onetime vote it allowed non hunters and fishermen to get on the F&G boards. Now in western mass.we have been over run with bear coyotes have decimated our deer small game is almost non existant.stand your ground.its your state .if you dont habe a sportsmans allience ,start one.good luck i hope things work out for you.

I guess it's how you want to see it. I'm from Ma too and I'm happy the state looks at all the wildlife, not just game animals.
I know the state has a very generous bear season with 150 - 200 harvested a year. I don't believe there are enough bear hunters that want to hunt for the harvest to be any bigger.
I know most of the state is absolutely overrun with deer to the nuisance level and this year's harvest was the second biggest despite hunter participation being way down. Meanwhile deer ticks make lyme a serious hazard.
I call total BS on small game being nonexistent. You just tossed that in for affect. Cottontails have been at the high end of the cycle for years and there are far more than the hunters can use. A few years ago when the mast crop was record high, the news was full of stories about the "plague of squirrels".

Thank you. Took previous information/articles more at face value and never dug into the details of the studies (or lack there of). Nice reminder to take everything with a grain of salt.

If you guys are worried about money for reintroduction I’d be more than happy to send you some of our wolves free of charge.  We seem to have an over abundance so getting rid of a few for a good cause would make me happy.  In the unit I hang out in you are allowed to harvest 10 wolves a day with no season limit.  Needless to say we have more than enough to go around.
I was born an Alaskan I just didn't live here at the time.

If you can send them as "pelts" I would take any you care to pass this way...but I am in Minnesota.

I saw two next to the Kenai River yesterday on my drive home from Homer but I left my rifle at home seeing how it was a work trip.  If I would have brought my rifle I probably never would have seen them.  Same goes when I’m fishing, if I have a gun I have no wolves, no gun equals wolves everywhere.  Man they are smart.

Well glad to find out that other folks have something to worry about. Where I fish I only have to worry about mountain loins! And please don’t correct my spelling!

One more reason to fight reintroduction...They are after your BLUEBERRIES!

Never get between a man and his blueberries.

A new study shows that blueberries may be a more valuable food source for wolves in the boreal forests of far northern Minnesota than previously appreciated.

We have those too but call them June Berries or Saskatoon Berries. The grow on small shrubs, however, and are too high for wolves.

5 or 6 feet off the ground. Unlike porcupines, wolves do not climb trees.

I'll take you word for there being less deer in the Berkshires but it has nothing to do with coyotes. If anything we probably have more coyote in the rest of the state. In the areas where there is no hunting, both deer and coyote swarm.

Also your claim that the leg trap ban caused the deer herd to be decimated is not supported by the harvest data from the state. Harvest has gone up since prop #1 in '96 even though hunter participation has dropped.

CPW press release from today:  Genetic testing confirmed that four scat samples found in Colorado at an elk kill (Moffat County) were from wolves. 3 females and 1 male, closely related.
I guess they're coming back on their own.
Flags up, gentlemen!!!
