MacBook must be screwed up. Works fine on iPad and iPhone  Anyway, just enjoying last years reports. Looks like guys first went out on Jan. 8. Dam warm up end of this week into early January might not make that possible this year. Forecasts are only good for maybe 10 days but if you need a good laugh, look at accuweathers 45 day forecast.

Hey SitsOnIce. Make a 5 post and then you can see the Lake conditions reports.

I am thinking the same think Teebugg, but my thoughts are on Tuesday Morning. That would give it roughly 40 hours of below freezing temps. That includes 2 nights of temps around 10. With no snow on the ice......who knows?

Take the long term forecast lightly, I just looked and it looked pretty good. Working in the golf industry I'm always looking at these, and they literally change every few hours. I don't even know why they put them up. Seems like a waste of time.

Seeing all those huts on the cam has got me really wanting to scratch the itch. I think the only thing I can fit in my schedule is an after-work Crappie by lantern light on Thursday or Friday night if the conditions improve, or at least maintain. I'd have to imagine that there's a fairly safe "beaten path" from the state launch out to where the guys are fishing now. Still, ice-picks, spud bar, and rope will not be left in the car.

Is there a certain area where most fall ins occur?  If so does anyone no why?  Is it a spring or something else?

There is an old post that someone made with some popular spring spots. Especially up north. Maybe someone can dig up that old thread. Also someone fell in last year near a creek and bubbler. Obviously stay away from those too

There is a creek down by the South end access that you have to be careful staying away from. The Creek and Bubbler where the 2 guys went in the other year was by the Trident Marine access spot. This by no means is the all inclusive list. Basically give Creeks/Bubblers a wide berth-they undercut the ice for quite aways.

That was my post.

I will copy and past it here

I think that is this is good info to link or bookmark on this Honeoye Lake ice conditions site.  The map below is from an ice-boating site regarding "gas holes" and one on Honeoye during a race.  They have a map for the general location of these gas holes on the north end of Honeoye Lake off of Sandy Bottom.  I have seen a couple out there in this area as have many others.  These aren't from rotting vegetation as stated on the website or from the "delta" of Honeoye Creek (as the creek is an outlet, not an inlet!) but from natural gas leaking though the bedrock/lake bottom and bubbling through the water/ice. http://lakeice.squarespace.com/gas-holes-more/

This blue area on the map is the general area to be alert for the presence of gas holes on the North end of Honeoye Lake if you fish off of Sandy Bottom. Remember this area and use caution when fishing in the area when the ice gets "safe" enough to fish on.

(Image removed from quote.)

What do they look like?

Here are some images from back in 2015 early in the season.

Caution for those fishing and accessing from Sandy Bottom on the North End.  A little more than a 1/3 of a mile south of the ramp on the west side  (typical spot for this one), about 100yds off of western shore in line with the first house at the north end sandy bottom ramp there are two large open gas holes - the larger one would eat an ATV or sled and the other a person!  The one is bubbling like made and you can hear it bubble and pop up to 75 yds away when the wind is dead.   We saw and heard them in the morning.   Use caution out there if you are walking or on a sled or ATV.

You can see the water perculating and gas bubbles coming up in this big one.

Here is the smaller one nearby

Do these gas holes form at the South end by state launch?  I did not see any last winter, but haven't spent a lot of time on this lake.

I've ice fished this lake since the 70's and have never seen one on the south end,not to say that there isn't any just saying I have never seen any. I am familiar with the ones on the north end.
