We bought a couple of 42 " Thorne bros profesional rods last spring, and mounted HC abu records on them. we liked them so much this season, that we ordered another pair of shorter ones for next season.

I just started ice fishing this year and focused on Lake Trout.  I prefer a longer rod as I like to let the jig or spoon flutter down and a longer rod gives you a bigger sweep.  I also like them pretty stiff as I notice with the shorter rod lengths it is much harder to set the hook.  I purchased a 38" Med Heavy rod from Gander Mountain and I like it except I would prefer it in a Heavy model (don't think they make it) and about 10" longer.

Picked up a HT Togue series MH 28" Rod an a Diawa Accudepth 17 LC Reel for it.  Heavy duty winch for the big Lakers ! The depth counter makes it real quick and easy to get right back on them.

The custom tied "Lizards Half and Half" Bucktail gets the job done !

28" or 32" St Croix Premier Medium.

I run that with 6lb fireline with a 5 foot leader of either 8lb or 10lb flourocarbon.

As for jig, I like smaller, compact lead spoons with a nice glow finish.
