  • Crappie too big for the hole!!! LOL!!
Got out this morning to see what the conditions of the ice was on the LaPorte Lakes.

Stone-here are some guys who were out on Stone

I ended up on Stone with Scott(fishgutz) and his son Kyle. Scott had a couple flags but nothing hooked.

Scott, Kyle and I were catching perch the whole time I was there. We were in 24 ft of water and they were thick on the bottom. I was using the "Vertical Obsession" lure by G & G tipped with a beemoth. Thanks George!

They were little with some that were maybe 8 inches.... fun catching them though.

Pine-here are some guys who were out on North Pine behind Gracies..

I decided to try the ice on North Pine too. Here's a pic, that shows there was open water in the area and the wind was tough. Several guys were out and catching some small gills/perch/crappie and bass.

The whole time, I'm thinking about whether we should go ahead and have the LaPorte Ice Derby on the 26th, and I think we will. We are supposed to get some cold weather this week that will lock these lakes back up. We won't be able to fish the whole lakes but there will definitely be fishable area.  We will be giving away a Vex FL-12 to the winner and other prizes. Register this week for $10 at the LaPorte Parks Dept or $15 the day of the event at Cummings Lodge. Rotory will be selling chili for lunch, and free coffee and donuts at registration. If you want info give me a call. 219-510-3193  For this tournament you can fish any LaPorte County Lakes. Check the Event Thead for a few more details http://www.iceshanty.com/ice_fishing/index.php?topic=97935.0

You got out, small or not it beats my day of watching TV and putting around the house. Good luck with the tourney, as long as the forecast holds there should be a good amount of safe ice!

Went out on stone later in the day 1-4 caught to keeper bass and four non keepers. 22 in 3  1/2 pounds and 17 1/2 2 pounds. fishing 8-12 feet water on tip ups. man did they run with it also. going goose hunting in morning and will be out there after that. Think I got like 5-10 other guys meeting out there to fish as well.

I went back out and fished from 3-5 and caught a few more small perch but the bite wasn't as good.  There was a lot of water on the ice when I left but the edge was fine at the boat ramp.

The ice was about 4 inches off the ramp but it melted a bit today and had water on top when I left. We were fishing in 24 ft of water and digging them off the bottom.

I drove by the boat ramp and seen a group out there and then a few guys behind Gracie's but didn't stop. Didn't realize there was 4in of ice out there. Disappointed I didn't check now.
