Cheap flasher for son
« on: Feb 10, 2015, 05:51 AM »
My boy is really getting into jigging and I was thinking about a cheap flasher for him.  I see Glenn's has a small unit called Showdown troller for $119.  Junk?  Step up to something else?  Not looking for the best of the best, just something that serves the purpose.  Input welcomed and appreciated.

The troller 2.0 isn't junk at all. This is the third yr with mine and I've had no issues. Does everything I need it to. The service from Marcum is very good also. I dropped mine in a hole and it stopped working, sent it to them and they fixed it free of charge and I had it back in less than a week.

Eric Dicks has the Humminbird Ice35 for 299.00. May be some discount on top of that. Also saw a Vex fl8 at Cabelas bargain cave for 238.00 Friday. May be worth a call.

Showdown is great easier to read than the circle flashers in my opinion.

I'm also in my 3r year with the showdown and love it. Easy to use and read, I do have the upgrade and the 12v bag. I can go 3 full days without having to charge my unit.

Put a crowbar in the wallet and buy the kid a real flasher. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Heck, with the amount of stuff he wins in derbies, I'm shocked he doesn't already have one.

I use the Ice 35 and like it a lot.

I have a dual beam and like it but had problems with it when I got it. Took several weeks to get and answer from Marcum
which has been sold to another company. Their phone number is 1-888-778-1208. Try it before you buy one and see if they
answer. There is a lot of imformation on the  FISHING WITH ELECTRONICS section of the ice shanty site. I don't know how good
the basic model is if you want to fish for Togue in 100 plus foot depth, somebody reading this thread would know.

Sorry to hijack gamefisher

To those with the showdowns, how deep of water are you normally fishing?

Some times you get a little surface clutter but if your fishing below 5 ft its fine.

Just looked in the catalog, the one I've seen in use is the 5.6, not the lower priced one.
