Softwater fishing.
« on: Jan 31, 2012, 03:54 PM »
Yep, yep.  I know.  This is an ice fishing forum.

But with all the warm weather some parts of the state are seeing... more and more people will be shore fishing / boat fishing soon.  I was just curious if anyone has been out yet or is thinking about trying someplace soon.

I have now fished the river and Crystal Reservoir both w/ the long rod but nothing to show for it yet.  Next on my list to try is Lake Hattie.  Feels good to actually cast again...   I don't like how I can't just throw up my quickfish3 and get out of the wind though!!! ;D

If I had a boat I'd be out on the Gorge right now! I will have one by spring!

Nice Pok3s.   What kind of boat you getting?  Would be really nice living so close to that lake.

I would be digging out my long range casting rig for tossing hunks of sucker meat or dead minnows from the bank at Buffalo Bill for lakers in my youthful days..

Sounds a tad cold right now these days..

I know it.  Well I'm cursing the weather.  I blame it.

If it were up to me... my favorite lakes would have 12" of ice all year.  I like ice fishing more than regular fishing. ;D

You guys feel free to post open water reports on here anytime you want! Remember too that as far as I am concerned you can post any off topic thread you want, as long as it's of interest to outdoorsmen/women. It will not get moved until it migrates to the 2nd page of the forum!

Pok, good luck with that boat shopping  ;D

+1.  Thanks MM.   If I post anymore softwater tidbits I'll be sure to post it in here rather than make a new post and add clutter.  I'll also be sure to add some pics of fish too.   ;)

Fished Miracle Mile on Jan 21, only fished for 4 hours, but kept 4 between two of us, and threw some nice bows back to keep growing.  Seemed to be any spinner with a black colored blade would get hit.

Caught eight on the ol' softwater yesterday by casting just in front of the ice.  Broke out my new neoprene chest waders and caught one fly fishing too

I am in the process of getting my boat ready to go, I have to do a motor tune up to it, I am going to be putting a 70 ft*lb trolling motor on it-upgrading my 50 ft*lb and another fish finder on the front...I should be able to get to the lakes this summer several times now that I will be done with school in May and I'll have my boat ready to go.  I haven't been able to get out once this summer-accursed school!!!
