Whatever kind they are, it appears the snow has melted considerably as evidenced by the lack of detail in the track and they appear to be melted out quite a bit.  Hence, I don't put much credence in the size of the tracks as an indication of their maker.  I would have said snowshoe as well, but am hesitant to question trappers--they know tracks better than the rest of us.  The vegetation alongside the road may sway my opinion on the snowshoe too--were there thickets or tag alders alongside the road?  If so, it would strengthen my suspicion that they are hare tracks.  Who knows, maybe they were made by a snowcat or a catshoe.

It baffles me how many people are saying these are snowshoe tracks... too funny! Are any of you guys speaking from experience or are you all just using google images to try to find something? Def not a snowshoe! Looks like alligator to me!

Most likely bobcat. Looks like he was in a hurry to boot! Fisher would have tail drag. Definitely cat.

at first i said fisher but then i took a closer look and saw only four toes (fisher have five) its a bobcat for sure. cat tracks have four toes and no claw marks. the toe pads make a semi circle or c shape. with canines you can draw an x in between the pads which you can not do with cat tracks. not a snowshoe hair either. the hind foot is not long enough. take it from a trapper you got yourself a bobcat in those woods.

They have the characteristic grouping of a Fisher but they do indeed only have 4 toes making it a bobcat.

Those are the tracks of the elusive 40 something year old cougar. She has a good Job, looking to share a shack. Drives a big 4x4 and probably has a nice boat and motor.
