Length of ice fishing rods/TUCR questions
« on: Dec 05, 2018, 04:13 PM »
Why is it so common for 32” and 36” rods for ice fishing

I bought 28” inch rods now in curious what it’s bettr for.

My Rods: TUCR bullwhip/fusion
Between bullwhip and precision noodle is it a must to have both? Or can 1 do good enough if I’m trying to fish 2-5mm tugsten, small spoons, etc

Between fusion and precision. What’s the better for walleye?

Do leave some feedbacks

Don't have any of those rods either...

No one rod will do everything, but sometimes you will use one rod for everything... ;)

I don't think 32-36" rods are common...they're uncommon.

until recently with better full suits for ice fishing and larger shelters.

28" was the long rod and 24" and under was the common rods.

TUCR are good rods. The fusion Will be a good rod for Croppie perch and walleye jigs, spoons etc.  The Percision is a stiffer  rod Built more for bigger lures, walleye/ pike etc.

I like the longer rods because I typically fish for lake trout instead of pan fish.

I just bout the small "radioactive pickle" to use for smelt fishing.  Never caught a smelt through the ice.

As far as rod length goes, some people that do a lot a hole hopping outside like to fish a little farther from the hole and standing up, and they say you get a better hook set.   Personal preference!

I use the 24 inch rod for everything up here in alberta. I even got a old ktel pocket fisherman I use for perch . Uf your space is confined ya want a small rod. If your sitting outdoors on the ice a 28 inch is nice.

I have quite a few TUCR rods (Precision Noodle, Bullwhip, Quick tip, Commander and just added the Fusion for this season). All of mine are 30" or 32", I wouldnt want any longer as I couldnt use them in my portable and the shortest  I would go would be 28" (have a few DH Customs that are 28")

Regarding the Precision Noodle and Bullwhip comparison, the difference is more noticeable in the backbone that in the tip, although I wouldnt use the Bullwhip for 3mm tungstens or anything lighter personally, the Precision Noodle is just a little more sensitive in the tip I feel

Regarding the Fusion and Precision for walleyes, if your primary target is walleyes, then go for the Precision. If you wanted to go for perch, crappies and walleyes, then the Fusion

This is why I like longer rods (32-38), I dont use a shelter, it is also easier to keep a bend in the rod, less bouncing.

I do most of my fishing out of my flip over hut. So I prefer shorter rods. I use tip ups and tip downs for outside my hut.

Do you have a "long" rod you like for panfish?
