I've recently seen some posts that guys have more success using waxworms as their favorite bluegill bait.  I have never used them but if the general concensus says they are good I might be missing somehting in my bait box.
What do you think? I'm usually using a mousy when they are available.
tip up tip down but for sure tip a few

darn right...bluebills are fun too....

ive done better using spikes..but they are such a pain..i use waxworms alot more..almost as effective, and crappies are more likely to hit them as well.

On Monday's its waxworms, on Tuesday's spikes, on Wednesday's its mousies.....etc.

I like waxxies for 'gills because crappie and perch are apt to hit equally as well

I carry wax worms, spikes and wigglers, they all work best at times.  Wigglers are good for the dead stick.

What Fishing King said!

The fish will tell you what they want. I always bring out all of the above. I also bring wigglers and minnows when I know there are big perch to be had.

I thought it was spikes but the other night the fish proved me wrong. I had spikes down for a 1/2 an hour nothing and they were downthere the whole time. when I switched to Waxworms I got a bit instantly. Coinsidence I don't know but I thingk you just have to wait and see what thwy want ;)

Had a very similar experience to the one above. Lately, I've been going to spikes first, but yesterday they wanted waxies in a big way. I ran through the last of my supply, which had to be 75. Needless to say, it was a good day for gill fishing!  I also think it matters how you hook them. I like tearing the head off and threading enough of the hook through so the waxie follows the hook shank, similar to a rubber grub. A real short bob with your jiggig rod will activate it. A spring bobber is also handy for maximum  control, though you can get the same motion with tight rod control.

Waxy's hands down. They will out fish spikes almost any day. When fish are not fussy go with spikes but when they sniff them, hit them with a big waxy.Only thing with waxy's is you must rebait almost always after you get a fish.

I love to use waxies. They are harder to keep on the hook, but they seem to work better. I think it is becuase of the softer texture. The fish hold on better becuase they cant feel the hook as well. They have more jucies as well, so i think it draws them in from father distances.

Waxies are usually my first option for gills.  Usually that is all that is available in my area but they work really well.  I have had the opportunity to get my hands on some spikes and mousies and they work good too.  Ive been in a couple of situations where the gills wouldnt even sniff a waxie but as soon as you put a mousie or two on the hook they would eat it right up.  I guess my advice would be to make sure you have plenty of waxies with you but to also carry either some mousies or spikes too.  Let the gills tell you what they want.

I've pretty much converted pretty much to all plastic.  When I do use bait it's most likely spikes.  I've also found that Chena Bait works well too.
Shut up and fish.

I have found that waxies do far better for me than spikes or mousies. Now they have preserved colored waxies and so far the red ones are really working out well ;D

I bring all three with me when I can.  One could be hot one day, & dead another.
