Pok is a good lake, but it's really hard to figure out in the winter, at least for 'eyes.  Try Trout Lake in Coleraine, right off the boat landing on the north side for 'eyes.  For pannies, Split Hand is really good, and so is Jay Gould.  I've got some huge perch and craps outta there.  Also, for some open-water fishing in the winter, try by the warm water discharge over by the power plant in Cohasset.  Tons of big bass, sunnies, craps, and even the occassional eye.  Use a lindy rig w/ a crawler, if you can find crawlers this time of year.  If you have any lakes in particular that you have questions about, lemme know.  I grew up there and use to fish 4-5 days a week, summer and winter.  Hope that helps!

I'd stay away from the landing by hooks, cuz the ice is usually open under the bridge, and sometimes the ice is still thin a ways away from there.  Never fished McKinney, but I've heard all that's there is smaller gills and craps, and a few decent pike.  Another lake I forgot to tell you about was Giles, which is also called Snells.  It's got some huge gills and pike.  I can't tell ya where they're at, you'll have to find 'em for yourself, but when you do it's well worth the reward.  There are a couple of craps in the lake and they're huge too, but they're hardly worth fishing.  Every once in a while you'll pull on up while fishing for gills.

Wait a second... are those lakes by Grand Marais instead of Grand Rapids??  I see that they are in Cook County, not Itasca... are there others with the same name somewhere else?

Twin is off of the south side of 169 between Bovey and Mable.  I like Trout, Wabana, and Spider in the summer, but have never hit them in the winter.  Laminade, south of Calumet has some huge pike.  We hit a lot of the little pot hole lakes south of Cohasset.  It can be interesting what you catch in them.  I don't even know if some of them have names.

I don't even know if some of them have names.

Take the back route from Cohasset to Rutgers.  Some of them are south of Grand Rapids, if you go to the road on the far west end of town that crosses the Mississippi, there are a bunch of little pot holes that we fished.  Some of them, you have to carry the boat or canoe in, from the road.
