The guys from Whitehall are part of LCWA, Lake Champlain Walleye Association.  They get eggs from the state to raise, basically increasing the state's capacity to raise walleye.

Lots more info here.

Only $10 for a membership, small price if you like to fish for walleye.

I checked on the NY stocking.  What the whitehall LCWA guys are doing is supported by NYSDEC, technically its NY (fish are stocked into South Bay).

Anyhow... the stocking program has been going on in Champlain since the '80's when the decline was being noticed.

New regulations should be in place by the end of the year for walleye as well.

I too hope to see the return of the "good ol days" down in Benson, because like you I missed it the first time around.

I think the Lamprey treatment on the Poultney River this fall will also help the situition.

According to Perch Pirate and he can clarify, he had hundreds of walleye wash up on his shore a few years back at Larrabees.  I am not sure if he ever found out why.

The guys in NY arent given any eggs! I went with them this spring. They are given very little time from NYDEC to electro shock for walleyes. They get two or three days scheduled and if the temps or weather is unfavorable its too bad. .NY DEC were Very helpful and answered the million questions I askedThey only get so much time to do this. It seems if they had more time they would get all the eggs they need.
Once the fish are elctro shocked they go into a holding tank. Everything gets recorded, age, weight, sex,a dorsal
fin clipped for aging I believe. Then the walleyes are given to John and Leonard and they do everything else from there on. These guys built a portable hatchery that is every bit as good as the state of VTs. I believe they have the right to collect  4 Million eggs a year for stocking. But due to weather and poor numbers
I believe the number of eggs was less than two million. This is only what I observed and heard. I only know a little but these guys really deserve some support. They are dedicated to saving the walleyes in Champlain.
