Looking like no ice this yr.don't think the king going to freeze

Maybe not lake george but there will be ice. I think people start to freak out when we don't get early ice. End of the weeks looking much colder up north I think doest weekend in January I'll be walking on water. Probably be jiggin lakers on lake george too but maybe not. Doesn't take long once it gets real cold and it can come out of nowhere

The unseasonably warm Oct/Nov we had was bad enough, now this

I don't even know when to start open water fishing without ice-out. First nice weekend in April, I guess.

So much negativity... It will come. Remember, we got spoiled with long seasons the last two years. We will still probably have at least two solid months on the ice, depending on location. A shorter season might actually be good for the fishing. Waters got pounded the last couple of years.

Every year the ice never comes soon enough.. I never get out until last week of December 1st week of January, and in all reality the ice has come late the last couple years and stayed deep into April, the ice will come, the flags will fly, and fish will be caught..

I think everyone's perspective depends on their favorite body of water to fish.

If you like big water - St. Lawrence, Chaumont Bay, Oneida, etc - it might be a long winter. If you fish lakes in the Adirondacks you will likely be walking on hardwater before mid-Jan.

It's tough to get excited about the prospects when the 10-14 day forecast has very little time below freezing. There are some interesting changes occurring up around the N. Pole (polar vortex part deux?) but it's too early to see any real changes in the computer models.

On the plus side I caught a northern on a jerkbait off the town dock yesterday which will hold me over for a bit

I feel bad for Lake George, Oneida, Chaumont, St. Lawrence diehards as well as those in the finger lakes region. I hope to be on ice in the adks shortly after New Years. Be patient. Be safe.

nothing wrong with that not to mention what a year to fish steelies ! all the lakes are wide open man can do well in a small boat ....lot of perch to be had

I live on a lake and love ice fishing, but i am loving this weather. After a weekend of muzzleloading I will be getting back to steelhead fishing and spending time in the tin boat. This year reminds me of 2012, and we got on the ice that year.

toss the boat in the back of the truck and away we go , motorcycle has gotten extra use and any day I can hunt or fish steelies without gloves is a great day

That would be nice. Unfortunately it doesn't look like conditions will improve as far as the forecast goes. I'll be happy if I'm on ice the first week in January.

I look forward to fishing the ADK'S every year the day after xmas for a four day outing ......its been a yearly event for a while (not too happy). We go back to Schroon or George and back out towards Plattsburg again later but it will not be a normal Christmas if i can't visit the boys at 307 and fish the hard water i enjoy early season.

I remember great years when we got out in December but in reality I usually have safe ice 2nd week in January, Just got spoiled a few years, maybe this year I will enjoy a little more bare ice, I'll admit the 3.5 feet of snow we had last year put my poor 70 Olympic to the test pulling all my gear.

It's my fault. I told all my friends and family there wouldn't be ice till I graduate from the corrections academy. So it's looking like the end of January, sorry fellas!!
