Hinckley Res. Info?
«
on:
Jan 09, 2006, 08:36 PM »
I'm going to be spending quite a bit of time near Hinckley Res in a few weeks. I have never fished it nor heard of it. Whats in there, is there safe ice, and where abouts do I fish?
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

To fish or not to fish...is a stupid question

I live 10 miles from Hinckley. No one I know ice fishes there. The level of the water can drop quite a bit, leaving feet of space between ice and water surface.
Except for maybe some local sketches (not very good ones) I have been unable to find charts of the lake. Anyone out there fish Hinckley Res.?
IMHO Delta Lake outside of Rome would be a safer hard water fishin' hole.

I'm not sure ice fishing is permitted being a trout water and all that. Check with DEC region 6

Not much action even in the summer, so I hear.

Thanks for the info! Saves me a bit of $ in bait for nothing.

I think the West Canada Creek in that area is open year round. Check the regs.
That is a world class Trout fishery, if you are into that.

I lived on Hinckley for about 6 months one full winter and let me tell you that you do not want to go out on it to fish it in the winter like what was stated earlier about space between the ice and the water it is the truth. I lived there with some friends we had a party one wkend and some people went for a walk on the res. an two went through the ice and thier was a 10 ft space between the ice and water lucily they were in two feet of water but they never would have gotten out if it wasn't for the other people that were with them . I t could have been a very bad situation. They sent some back to the cabin to get us so we were able to get them out ok but it could have been worse.
