An old Eagle sonar that didn't do much except show depth.

X2!  That thing showed fish all the time even when none were present. I suppose it kept me on my toes-

Showdown here for three years then bought the fl28. I expect to keep this in working order for a few decades until the next best thing comes along. ;D

My first fishfinder? My wife.

She does a pretty good job too!  I've since gotten the entry level Vexilar.

My buddy got a new FL-8 back around '99-2000 time frame, which he still uses today! I was fairly new to ice fishing and that was the first time I'd ever heard of a Vexilar.  I knew immediately it was a game changer.  My first Vexilar was an FL-18 which I still have and use but purchased an FLX-28 for this season after fishing with a friends last year.

A lead depth finder clipped to my tip up line and intuition..... Oh, you mean technology  ::)

OK, I cobbled an old HB Super Sixty into a Rubbermaid tub with a handle and a battery. Mostly used it for depth finding and bottom evaluation. Bought an FL-8 some time in the mid - 90s. Had it a long time and even rigged it for a bow mount on my boat. My son's buddy has it now and it has been flawless.

Current is a Lowrance M68. Does the same double duty and I love it. The flasher mode is great in open water but the graph really shines in weed choked shallow water. Best of everything including GPS. Got it on the boat all open water and mark every drop, crib, rockpile, weed edge, well whatever. It's all at my fingertips.

My dad had a humming bird back in the late 80's early 90's that I used a couple of times but my first was a eagle silent sixty which wasn't so silent and I still have it and use it from time to time.

I bought an FL8 and a camera.....didn't know how to use the sonar so took it back. Went and watched u tube to figure stuff out. Then bought an FL20, then a vpg upgraded it to the showdown.(/Sold later)  Then a FLx28, then and FL22HD, then a FL18.

Today I have a FL18, FL20, FL22HD, and an FLx28 double vision. That way if anyone goes with me in the shack I've got them covered.

I'm going to be to  looking for that red castle on the IGL!

Hope to get enough ice to go on the IGL....crossing my fingers that around the 19th of December Upper Red is thick enough and I can get a good 3 days of shack fishing in and can post pics.

My first was last year, I was new to boating and hardwater, so I took my HB 688 and added a ice Ducer.  It has flasher mode, but I prefer the graph.

Woodsman, I remember that same exact Si-Tex on my uncle's boat! I was about 12 and would stare at it, trying to figure out how to read it. I never did figure it out, although I could now.  He also had a Ray Jefferson paper graph.  My first fishfinder for ice fishing was an Eagle Fish Easy, grayscale lcd.  It worked alright until it got below 0° one day and the damned thing broke!  Now I have a Lowrance x67c that I have had for 10 years and is still going strong.

Eagle Fish ID II back in the early 90's. Was a Christmas gift from my wife. It worked pretty good most of the time, but ate up the lantern batteries and had issues when it was it really cold. It was a game changer though and helped put plenty of fish on the ice and in the boat.

My dad had this old Humminbird that came in this big yellow box (dont know the model)  we pretty much used it just to check depths, if we used it at all.  The most reliable one we used was Stanley (30ft tape measure) ;)

My "first" fish finder that I would consider to be good by today's standards would be my Marcum VX1 Pro I got as a Christmas gift a few years ago

That is what I first used a Humminbird "Super Sixty" flasher in a "Bird Trap" portable case.

Back then I never even thought of using it to try and see my jig, just strictly to check depth quickly. When the ice was clear you just pour a little water on top of the ice and set the transducer on the water it would shoot right through the ice without drilling a hole. It was a fast way to find the drop off's or sunken islands.
