I met a new fishing partner - Jacksmelt - thru Ice Shanty last year.
These are the fish that Jacksmelt and his brother caught one day up on Clear Lake, they are a couple of good guys and really know how to fish. There are two Togue, four White Fish, and three Brookies - one was 20".

In the big rock candy mountains.

The day I started on fire was quite memorable. Tom and the gang thought it was pretty darn funny, I had them laughing all day.

FIRE BAD!

Here are 2 that get me excited about the upcoming season.

This one is just about to hit my panfish jig:

I hope to videotape some of these fish this winter.  (I will try to pick a clearer lake)

Well after searching a good part of the winter for the elusive hot hole, I had found it. The fishing was so good that I must have spontaneously combusted.  ;)

WOW! awesome pics!

Do the leaves of trees stay greener, in the autumn, does the colour of the sun, turn crimson white? Does a shadow come between us, in the winter?

Ok lol... I'll come clean. And now the rest of the story.

Had a rather large group out with me perch fishing, we were having trouble locating a good size school of perch so I grabbed my Uncle Tom's auger which I am unfamiliar with. I really go into "the zone" when I go on a drilling frenzy, I was cranking out about 25-30 hole session, it was very cold out but for some reason while drilling I feel this intense heat on my face, of course I think nothing of it and just keep drilling. Then I started smelling these fumes like plastic burning and it's choking me out but this doesn't phase me either. I am in the zone! Well about a hole or two later I burst into flames! The intense heat was hitting me in the face and that finally got my attention.

I did a bad move and I tried swatting the fire out with my bare hands, the melted suit stuck to my fingers and burned my hand... not good! I then preceded to do a belly flop onto the ice which snuffed out the flames. Turns out I am used to my jiffy 30 throttle and it was on the opposite side of Tom's white lightening, I was holding the auger from the wrong side and my rain coat had been touching the muffler.  >:(

I walked back over to chew Tom out about the auger, they are all busting a gut on my misfortune :'( Funny thing to me was that they all share the same auger most days so I looked around at their jackets and can you believe the was not one guy who used that auger without a burn hole in their coat  :-\

Lesson learned! Cost me a 40 dollar rain coat and a chewing out from my wife Cheryl as she actually had to cut me out of the coat when I got home.  :-\ I did wear the coat for another week or so until I got a new one, got lots of laughs.

C'mon.

Spill it Scott.

Inquiring minds wish to know.

How did you do this.

First day with my new auger 3 years ago I did almost the same thing. Blasting holes and then I feel heat on my wrist. My wrist was against the muffler and burnt a hole through my hunting jacket, long sleeve jersey, long johns and eventually burnt my wrist. A lesson learned and I feel a heck of a lot better knowing Im not the only dumb ars out there!! No offense Scott!!!!

the one in my profile is a goodin' (rainbow in the low 20 inch range and a good 4 or so pounder) but this is more memorable:

The day was going poorly. I hadn't been skunked all season and wanted to keep it that way. The lakers were especially finicky this day and just wouldn't have anything to do with anything we dropped down there whatsoever. On a good day it may take 3 minutes for a laker to bite, on a normal day 5 minutes, and on a bad day 10 minutes. I thought this was a very bad day, but the only bite I had occured very quickly.
I was about to ahem, do some business in our portable bucket thingy  I was in only long underware and i hear flip! and line pulling off slowly and I knew I had a tipup.
Stumbling out with my pants around my ankles, looking as if I'm the most drunk redneck you've ever seen, I move the tipup, pickup the line and catch a small laker. I got dressed and got the picture taken. I then proceeded to make out with the laker

if anybody from michigan will help me out with the lakes and stuff up here I'd really appreciate it since I'm new to the area.

I took this one while fishing with Bob D in VT during first ice last season. It's a phenomenon called hoar frost. It was below zero and the ice was still only 4" thick. The heat was being drawn from the water through the ice and condensing and crystalizing when it hit the cold air. Some were as big as your fist. They were incredibly delicate and would turn to dust just by blowing on them...
