Where are you going - I need some crappie lessons. :)
I got three pretty decent ones on Glenmere last year, but
I wasn't fishing for them.
Of course - I mean PM me. :)

Had about 8 inches where I fished yesterday.
Bite was a little slow but we managed to jig up some really healthy bluegills, a few crappie up to 13 inches and my wife caught her personal best bass at 21 inches on bare frostee spoon.
Warming up the car to go out again right now!

Thanks for the info.  I was hoping to get on the ice this weekend but I don't think the weather will cooperate. It's suppose to rain a lot with temps in the 50s  for the next 4 days.  We'll see.
Thanks again.

Taking a short break right now to warm up.
The fish are really biting this morning. They wouldn't even let my spoon hit bottom sometimes.
At least a dozen gills over 9 inches. A couple of nice bass even though I lost a nice 4 pounder at the hole.
The ice is nice and thick. Using the new clam conversion auger this morning for the first time and it rips!
With a makita It's like using a gas auger. Fast and easy! Drills many holes.

I'm hoping to get out later ....I have a question about your Clam Auger ....how thick waas the ice and how many holes did it actually cut ....as i have Strikemaster lazer 6 in matched to a Dewalt 20volt max (slim batt 1.5 amp) I got 20 holes in 5-6 inces of ice ... was thinking but upgrading the battery to 3.3 amp and adding the Clam conversion plate ...thanks for your reply

I was drilling through 9-10 inches of black ice fast.
I got about 12-13 holes per slim battery.
So that would be over 25 with the big battery.
The conversion plate is nice. Very light weight set up. About 14 lbs.
Handles like a gas auger.

Report from Silvermine in Harriman State Park:
These results were from the group I was with and two guys I met up with later in the day:
I personally landed some impressive yellow perch and gills...
The bite was very good in the morning. Died off around 11am. Met some really great guys today.
The yellow perch bite was remarkable. Gills were slower but big. Some dinks of each.
Three largies were landed on the jig. Two were over 3lbs.
Tip ups with pin heads resulted in yellow perch and pickerels. Nothing on larger baits.
No crappies  ???
The bite picked up later in the day, but nothing compared to the morning.
On the ice around 8am, off at 430pm.
It is what it is....

  • my spoons are my passion
i am either missing the schools or caught them all!!!  went out for a mid day trip and had to leave just as the lookers started to taste the bait....   after the rain.   i was wearing my cleats and was still slippin and a sliding all around today.this snow is dense! the 1/2 inch spikes i wear couldn't get to the ice unless i dragged my toes.   god i love the weather  with the rains we have been having. this ice is awesome!  the drags are easy so far...   and all i can say is its all about the "spoons"...   customs are the best.
boss spoons, they can catch it all!!!

Hour and a half on Glenmere (2:30 to 4:00) - one medium size bass on tipup (released) + three medium yellow perches (released).
I walked about 10-12 holes and saw a lot of fish down there circling my bait with no intention to bite.
Disappointed. :-\

Good job!

Thanks.. But honestly there was one guy there that just plain killed it. He was hooking up into those yellows on nearly every drop. I did well, I would guess I caught close to 50 yellows and 12-18 blue gills. But I was there a heck of a long time.

My experience was similar today. Fast and hard bite all morning then it died around 11:00. Slow to nonexistent during mid-day. Picked up a little towards late afternoon. spoons in the morning and ratsos the rest of the day.
It was a decent day. A lot of nice fish. Mixed bag.

Tioroti  was full of dink yellow perch ( bait size) all around from11 to 32 fow..black ice 6 to 7.. very slippery like boss jig stated even with ice cleats. Albeit.. released over 30 four inch dinks. I doubt the  park will open again anytime  next week..too much warm crazy weather
