Good news I got the day off from work so will see some of you people on Saturday. I was out at Thruway Market in Walden last night talked to a fellow ice fishermen said he heard of a few people fishing on Morningside (Sullivan county) this past week . Also picked up a Frabill 101 combo to try out this year (27 inch quick tip ) . I will post reports on how I like the combo through out this ice season.

i have used knutsons waxxies and spikes and must say the grubs were in great shape when i got them. i kept the waxxies at about 55-60 degrees and they lasted most of the season. the spikes i kept in the fridge and they lasted till used up...

before this warm up came there was a little ice for the light weight people, 2" max! but after the rains with the high temps its gone!!! it should be back quickly though...

Right, before the worm up .
I was hunting behind my place it's a 12" deep smal pound it was frozen ok , want to cut to my stand and walk over $:-\$ big mistake . It was only 1"- 1 1/2" .

Let me know what everyone else thinks, but here's what I see with the snow we got last night. The water saturated the snow and when it gets cold again it's going to freeze solid. It won't be as strong as the black ice but at least that's a couple more inches of ice. If it stays cold this week, hopefully be back out on the small waters again next week.

It's supposed to snow/rain/ice on monday so hopefully that open things up a little but judging by the temps it won't open things up.... at least it'll be a start

Razvy if you are referring to my last post, I was just passing on what someone else told me. I was surprised anyone would take the risk but some people always live on the edge. In the future will try to only pass on info. from my personal experiences.

I deer hunt in a swampy area, and I'm always walking in or threw water.
Ice is a luxery we don't always get during deer season

Just got back from hunting in Sullivan Cty. Here's what I found for the last few days:

White Lake......completely open water

Lake Superior......complete ly open water

Black Lake..... frozen over

Toronto Reservoir.....complete ly open water

Highland Lake......skim ice, partial

Bodine Lake.....frozen over

NOTE: JUST BECAUSE THE LAKE IS FROZEN OVER, DOESN'T MEAN IT'S SAFE TO WALK ON.!!!! 'NUFF SAID.

Any weekend possibilities anywhere in Sullivan? With the snow forecasted, its not the best for ice making, but I'm definitely getting on the ice next weekend. My farm pond still had some open water with only some skim/slush ice as of yesterday, but these cold temps look promising.

I was just looking at the reports and conditions board and realized that there was no thread for Orange County... There's one for Sullivan but not Orange.... interesting

Loudmouth I believe there is a thread for Greenwood Lake among the Reports and Conditions forum. Tipup28 remember the preseason gathering at Gander Mountain is this Saturday. (2-6 pm) They are forcasting snow for Sat. so check weather reports . If you check the bait shop list you should find a few shops listed in Sullivan CO. Give them a call and see what they say about ice conditions.
