Mid-day weekends tend to be slow on here. People out fishing.

I’d say half have packed it in, half are out there having one last go at it.

I’m going out Sunday/Monday and then putting the gear in the basement

Lakers in MA through the ice? Or even open water this time of year that are legal to fish for?

There is at least one place in MA to catch them legally year round (except thru the ice, no ice fishing allowed there).

The decline in use this year was much steeper than previous years.

There are 2 possible places to catch lakers out of season legaly. one is only open water and a okay chance at getting one. then there is another place that is a long shot but you could possibly get one through the ice there

I dont post much... But I am still fishing. i was out Friday and Saturday. Skunked on Friday and 2 MEH yellows yesterday in Pittsfield. Id be going back out next week too if my wife didnt have other plans for my spare time (unemployed - looking). I had a hell of season not working, I fished over 25 times, over 100 hours on ice.

The ice one is probably Quinnsig, where Mass wildlife confirmed one laker was taken thru the about three years ago.

There are a few more places actually I've heard of Lakers being caught.  Nashua river is one of them as it spills out to the Merrimack some deep holes and cold spots in there and therefore theoretically any tributary of Nashua or Merrimack could have them. Same goes of walleyes.  The other is the fly fishing only section of the swift, just below the dam and pump house. That water in 30 degrees in the hottest days of the summer.  In reality there are plenty of streams ponds that connect to quabbin and wachusett that could potentially hold Lakers. The odds are relatively low. Laker fishing gets old once you catch enough under 4 or 5 lbs then you start wondering where the big ones are... The truth is just sitting lazily on the bottom.  I am willing to bet that rogue Laker out of quinsig was someone playing mass wildlife and dumping a small one in there.

saw a trout come out of one of my favorite warmwater ponds this year. absolutely no stocking occurs here and is not connected to anything.

Just drove down the Barton’s access on way back from grocery store... huts are still out there and ice is tight to shore. If the rain stops I might go spud around a bit and see what’s left of it.
Amount of water sitting on top makes me think there’s good ice down there still.

Great Divide did a tap takeover around here.  They brought their discontinued Barrel Aged Mexican Hot Chocolate Yeti.  It is arguably the next best thing than walking on water.
