It will be nice to have all of these reservoirs full this winter. I was talking to the manager of the Wheatland irrigation district the other day and he said the G&F stocked 2 million cuts in Wheatland #3. He also said that Hattie irr district had to let 25k acre feet out of Hattie because of problems with their check dam (or something like that). Hopefully it is still in good shape?

All of the No platte reservoirs are in good shape, Laramie river reservoirs too. The future is bright.

I spoke to one of my health care professionals today about the upcomming fishing season. The reply was:

From the information you provided, you appear to be someone who might benefit from psychotherapy from a mental health professional at this time. You appear from your responses to be grappling with a problem in your life that is causing you some concern. People in situations similar to yours often find that talking things over with a therapist can help them get back on track.

It would be advisable and likely beneficial for you to seek further diagnosis from an experienced, trained mental health professional soon to help you with the problem behaviors and feelings you're experiencing.

Thanks a lot buddy! Bring on the ice.

Sure.
Missed getting pics of some good fish, including one pig brown, but taking care of the fish was priority at the time. Wildlife abounded, weather was beautiful and the company was great.

Sibly is not that big of a lake.  I imagine the elevation something like 7000-7500 feet.  But hard water is hard water.

Looks like the temps are really going to take a dive over the next week.  Where did you fish Trog?

You get one guess and one guess only. At least i have an idea what the water level will be when it gets the hardtop. Too bad it will be another 6 weeks at least.

Yup.

We had no intel on where to go and what to use. Didn't even have a depth finder on the boat so it was tough sledding. Speaking od sledding it sure looks like winter now. We got a good 5 inches of snow right now.

I went on the net and found Mr.TWister and ordered a bunch of plastic baits for a quarter of what they cost locally.    Even Radical Glow lures can be ordered over the phone. I imagine Bass Pro has a phone ordering number.    I bought creepers and some heavy duty long johns on ebay.  Not to deminish shopping locally but Being thrifty allows me to afford a bit more gas...or a little more of the pricy sucker meat.

Wyoming Farmer, you are right about the prices Rocky Mtn charges. Jump on the computer and search Bass Pro, Cabellas and Thorne Bros. I've ordered thru all of these places and you get quality and save some bucks even with freight. Its getting that time. Need to set minnow traps and start growing mealworms..Good Luck
Title: Re: It's Coming
Post by: wyoutdoors on Nov 14, 2010, 09:25 AM
Raising meal worms? Never thought of that. Just add some meal worms to a container/tank with some bedding and they take off? Does it have much of a smell or anything like that. Mrs G may not be up for a project like this. Can you color them as well?

Well my weather station showed 17 as a low and it shows 25 now.  My low all week was 12 but a friend out by bass lake had a low of 6.. I was out by bass lake yesterday for pheasants and no ice.  I spent over 120 hours on my ice castle this summer and fall and this hot dry fall sucks...

Meal Worms are simple to raise. As far as a smell goes_if you keep the bedding changed and dont let the apple or potatoe rot it is scent free. Its nice to have a large supply when everyone else is out..

Branded what do you use for bait in your minnow traps and do you just buy a large amount of meal worms to start or are you actually breeding them?

Moose I've made some hook setting tipups that work pretty well they are similar to a slammer. If you would like I'll tell you or show you how to make them. I use old or broken open water rods that i modify for them as rod length to trigger is fairly important.

Forecast is for a low of 7 degrees on next Tuesday night here in R S.   I think if we're lucky in the SW part of WY that we may be on SOME ice the Saturday after the turkey comes and goes.   Not to count chickens but the water is in condition now and a few days of good cold should do it.

Fishsmith, I use styrofoam as bait in my minnow traps. Sounds weird but it really works. It floats and brings the fish in. I usually buy 250 meal worms from a mail order dealer and raise them from there. Havent tried to do it from scratch yet. But its all good. When the fish are biting and the bait is hard to find I have my own stash.

Now I am really ready!!!   I found a free ice auger on craigslist a little over a week ago...surprisingly was able to find a new diaphragm for the carb on ebay (and only $3) -

Got it today...put it back together - and it ROARS!  We will see how it does under a load, but it feels strong. Hopefully when the ice gets really thick I can use it and have more freedom to move around - I don't move very often once I get my holes drilled with the hand auger!

Bring on the cold!

For those of you in the Buffalo, Sheridan and Gillette area. Healy Reservoir was capped yesterday at 15:00 and had 1.5 inches. -8 here this morning and very little snow last night. And I am here at WORK >:(
Good news, thanks! Was planning on making a run there this morning but will waive it off for now. Might be back from work on Friday and make a trip there.

It's cold here in GR today lol...but lots of wind. Took a ride out to the Gorge to check on ice conditions and there was some ice way up at the bottleneck where the shallow blacksfork meets the wider gorge if that makes any sense. Also halfway hollow was capped ( i think that's the name). Probably an inch or less. I through some rocks against it and they bounced along. If the wind would stop blowing it would cap that sucker in a hurry. If it can still make ice through the "warmer temps" this weekend and through next week we should be ok.

Saw a guy fishing on the fishing lake in gillette this afternoon. He said there was about 3-4". Told him that he beat me there for the season and his response was he was beat also. By the weekend the ice should be pretty good. He did mention that on the east end near the outlet that the ice was a little sketchy still and he couldnt find any waxies yet in town.

Thanks for the weather update er-e-is! my buddy windriverkid is in SD hunting and usually gives me a text in the mornings as to the weather/temp over there. last he said was there wasn't even any ice around the edges of the lakes. can't wait to get over there. i still want to go over with LT and catch me a laker this winter.  ;D    Dain
