Fixing a clam shanty
« on: Dec 03, 2003, 03:28 PM »
I have a portable clam ice shanty and the mice got in it last year a chewed a hole in it. I was wondering what would be the best way to fix it.

Thanks for the help

I repaired a hole in my partner's fish trap with some scrap fabric  I got from a boat canvas shop. I attached it with a heavy duty contact adhesive. It's held up for a number of years.

for a small hole in my steel tarps on the truck, I used to use a piece of duct tape with about a 1/2" extending on the sides of the hole on both sides, then smear a coating of "shoe goo" over the tape on each side... it was as close to bulletproof as it could be. just make sure it's clean so the goo can get set

I have used iron on patches to repair holes in a canvas boat cover. There is a product called Liquid Stich that works with a canvas patch.

I'm with fishingnut the old iron patches work great on my Trap when needed. Just don't let the wife see you ironing she may get some ideas! LOL   Jim C.

Ironing can actually melt the material. If you call Clam Corp. and ask for a piece of patch material - they will send you a piece. You will need Fabri-Tac glue and you can get this at sewing shops. Bring the Trap in the house overnight - so material is warm. Apply the patch material with Fabri-Tac to the inside and let dry. Then do the same to the outside. Good luck ! ;)
