Easter Monday Fishin'
« on: Apr 01, 2013, 10:04 PM »
Got out today for a little fishin' with dcutter.
Weather was typically horrible for this time of year in YK.    ;)2
Fishing was slow and the bites were very light but I did manage to get tomorrow's dinner.   ;D

The one downer on the day was that when we got to the lake and I hauled the auger out of the sled I found that the bottom gear case cover on my auger was broken.    :%$#!:
I had to leave my toboggan and my buddy behind while I ran the 25 or 30 kms back to the house to get my backup powerhead. Now I need to search ebay for a replacement gear case cover or gear case.     :'(

It works fine but it has a little trouble with my 10 1/4" Strikemaster bit.   ;)
My Strikemaster is a 3hp and the Rapala/Eskimo is only 2hp.
That 1 hp makes a big difference especially with the gearing that is on the Rapala power head.
The bit turns faster but is has less torque because of it.

Seems that I should be able to order up the lower gear case cover though.
Gonna call Minnysoda in the morning.   ;)2

You get my PM Phill?

I iced two on Monday at my first spot, then nothing rest of day. Bites were timid, but they held on long enough. At least it wasn't that peck, peck stuff. That south wind was just enough to be annoying. I got three through the ice on Saturday too, with real hard hits.

My "power head" is my right arm and my "gear case" is my left. They are a lot harder to break and then you use the trout as your fuel! You guys should try it sometime.

I'm not finding too much ice this year either. Seems weird for the hard winter, and lack of snow on the ice this fall. I did have a buddy set a net in Great Slave and said a solid 4 feet there, but more like 25-32 inches where I've been. In past years, in same spots, I've drilled through more.

I have one of those augers.
It get's used early season when I'm walking on.
When I can sled in the power augers get used.   ;D

I like to work smart not hard.   ;)2

I have seen ice from about 36"-50" so far this winter.
Last weekend was 36" or so under 18"-24" of snow.
