Well folks, Ice is starting to form on some shallow high lakes in the South Cascades. Leech lake and knuppemburg pond on white pass both have ice forming or snow combining to make a layer of ice as of Saturday 10-19. Might be a early season this year.

Almost all ice gone on leech already warm weather has slowed down the freeze

I am ready! It will be soon and it will be a great ice season! I know there is ice to be had up high, but I'm trying to avoid the 5+ mile hikes. I'm up in wenatchee and know people are ice skating in some high lakes, in the enchantments....GOLDEN TROUT LAKES! It would be awesome, but you are looking at over 15 miles roundtrip.

I always knew Leech Lake as a fly-only lake. You can ice fish too?
-
I think it’s all in the interpretation? I’m guessing no bait allowed, but I doubt they require fly rod/reel for fishing through the ice. Maybe check with F&G before you make the trip.
