baitcasting rod for ice fishing
« on: Mar 06, 2007, 06:24 AM »
Does anyone know where i can locate  a lighter action rod for a small baitcaster reel ? My only one is from Southbend Co. while the length is what i want (25in.) the rod has the action of a "pool cue"
The main reason i like a baitcaster, is there is virtually no line twist. So, i need lighter action rods from 16in. to no more than 26in. The reason for the specific length is i  use an Otter tent. If the rod is too long, the tip hits the front of the tent, and off gets the fish !!
Thanks in advance for any info.

On the HT website, they list this rod as a light action baitcasting rod that is 25 inches long.

That's a ridiculous baitcasting rod...It's just a spinning rod flipped upside down, with a different handle on it.  The eyes are supposed to sit on the blank...That's one reason I'm hesitant to buy HT rods, there's really no attention to detail.  ::)

I took my sons zebco e glass rod (el cheapie) and in about 10 minutes cut it down slid it in the handle, thread wrapped it , wha la!
has become one of my favorite rods. made a few for buddies.
just a thought...9.99 and a little time~!

Wow and looks alot better than the HT upside down.
Lack of planning on your part in NO way constitutes an EMERGENCY on mine

I got mine from thorne bros...I love it...and the best thing is you can get it to whatever length you want...I got a rod for a friend who keeps his under his snowmobile seat made to 24" and he loves it. He has never had a rod that length with so much sensitivity.

Sorry about that. I don't like HT rods anyway. They are cheap. I have an HT spinning rod that has the action of a pool cue.  I am looking for  a baitcaster myself. I like ST. Croix, but I don't think they make baitcasting ice rods. Berkley makes a Lightning Ice Baitcaster, but It is very hard to find, even on the internet. Of course, If I won the lottery, I would just buy  a Thorne Bros.
