Hi I would like to make flouro carbon leaders for pike/walleyes what test would you recommend? How long should I make it? also when buying flouro do I use regular flouro or the leader kind can never find leader style. I also want to use circle or kahle hooks. Thanks

I just started ice fishing, but use fluoro leaders during the summer to avoid pike and musky biteoffs on big swimbaits.
I currently use Cabela's and Seguar fluoro leader material, but I'm going to start using this stuff from Bass Pro: https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/offshore-angler-pre-cut-leader
I use appropriately sized barrel crimps (these for my 40-50# stuff): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FPIW11I/
I used some chartreuse beads and blades and think they made a difference for pike. I got more hits and fish than anyone else.
I'm not a walleye guy, but I'm going to make up some tied leaders with 8# fluoro to try for then.

Always use leader material I would recommend seaguar blue label. The Cabelas is made by seaguar so it may be the same stuff. 15 lb for pike with circle hooks 20 to 50 lb with trebles depending on pike line shyness and size. 40 lb line seems to be the cutoff for tying in my book anything over and definitely crimp 40 you can tie but you may feel better about crimping. Walleye I would use 6 to 10 lb with a treble or single octopus hook. I would not use circles for walleye. The trick to a circle is the fish has to be heading away and walleye tend to sit with the bait. Last note would be to always wet the line some way before tightening the knot if you don’t the line will rub on itself and weaken the knot.

These rigs are easy and quick to make. I use them for lake trout fishing. For explanations of how to make these quick-strike rigs, see the following YouTube videos, or Google "two hook mooching rig." I don't use monofilament rigs when fishing for pike, because pike's teeth are too likely to cut mono leaders. I make similar quick-strike rigs or "Y" rigs using steel leader and ferrules.
