nicjohnsrud, I love that little solo sled you made. Nice clean, light and efficient for a one person. Hope it serves you well.

Hey threadforstring, be careful how you pull on your sled with that tiny piece of wood on the back side of your brace.  I built one 2 weeks ago really similar to yours.  When I got home, I was pulling it out of the truck and sheared that back piece off.  I rebuilt it tonight and left a solid 6 inches of wood back there.  A lot of the pressure is getting put on that piece.

You mean like this:   :%$#!:

I also have a one man shanty and decided to build another one last night for it. As you can see I changed the design slightly.

After re-learning how to post pics.....This sled fits around the outside of my clam pro tc..tried it out on the little bit of snow we got monday....makes a HUGE difference in moving it around

My sled. Made out of schedule 40 pvc

As you can see, we inserted pins to be able to lower it when I get to where I'm fishing

Couplers come apart so I can get it in my trunk...lol

it will happen on turns or when you pull one ski more than other, the one screw let the wood pieces rotate, you can have 1" or nothing at all as long as you are using 2 screws to keep the sled in rectangular shape

other option, you can put some 3" wood screws  to protect the wood from splitting

I would put an 90 degree L bracket on the back side to reinforce the back side of the block. Pine is soft and easy to split. Putting 3 inch screws in can split it too if you don't predrill.

one more tip that will take stress off your ski/frame.

when you tie the rope to your ski tips:

i used a piece of wood to attach to each ski. usually a short piece of rope (6"?) from each ski tip to each end of the piece of wood. then tie your tow rope to the center of that piece of wood/or plastic. that way when you pull, you pull both skis at once no matter what. it should stop most of the tension and twisting on the whole frame.
