There is absolutely NOTHING that an in-line can do better than a good spinning reel. NOTHING! ;)

If thats what you like then thats fine.     Like my ex-boss used to say:  "Excrement is good if you like it"! ;D

I have one....used it one season and will never take it on the ice again. A quality spinning reel works just fine - i use a swivel 2-3' up my line to negate any line twist/spinning baits

a few years ago, purchased an Eagle Claw in-line reel. there was something about it that I really liked. maybe it was just different. I ended up purchasing 2 more. one as a spare and I use the 2nd one. I bring out 2 in-lines and 2 spinning combos. One spinning combo is used in the HT Rigger. the other is dead sticked while I'm jigging.

I'm not going to say my Black Betty 6061 inline reels are any better then some of my quality spinning reels.
But I do like them and they work very well.
I got them on a really good sale price so cost-wise they didn't really cost me any more than a good spinning reel.
I'm certainly glad I brought my inlines and I won't be selling them anytime soon.
But that doesn't mean I won't be using my spinning reels sometimes as well.
It's kind of like asking somebody gas auger or electric.
Both have their weak points and both have situations where they excel.
If you can find a buddy or someone who has an inline that you can try out to see if you like it that would be great.
If you like it buy some if you don't then don't buy any.

You may want to try this Black Betty reel. it is a blast to fish with and not expensive if you decide you do not like it.

Had 1 of those Black Betty 1:1 and didn’t care for it , I mailed to another member on here that liked them
I own a couple first run 6061s for a killer price and still abusing them , I also use spinning reels

If you look back on this thread I praised the eagle claw inline 2 years ago. I now have a couple good spinning rods I prefer to use. The in lines are still there but they see very little use... it’s all about what you like!

we saw this mass move to inlines a few years ago.  around here, i've seen most move back to spinning reels.  Even on the TV shows most have also switched back.

Inlines solve line twist, but i think many have found that line twist just isn't really that big of a deal in majority of situations.  The disadvantages of poor drag systems and slow drop rates are the biggest culprits.

Catching fish on a free spooler is definitely fun if you aren't worried about losing fish.

I started with okuma like 6 years ago, bought every inline under the sun.  i mainly use my spinning reels.
