line color

Just wondering what color main line everyone uses and why you think one works better than another. I've always used tan braid just because it's a pretty neutral color.

I believe this to be mainly an angler confidence issue. I've fished white, black, green, tan, yellow, greenspot, blackspot and camo (both brown and green). Never seemed to make a difference, at least not one that was readily evident. The only colors I haven't fished are the very fluorescent green or orange Dacron catfish spools I bought for tying bobber stops.

My go to is black. It's easy to see on the ice plus I happen to have giant spool I got for a song (but I was looking specifically for black).
To fish or not to fish? That's a stupid question!

I like the sand/tan color. It's easy to see in the water to point your spool in the direction the fish is swimming.

We've been using some of the fluorescent colors, green / orange  fly-fishing line with good success!  As others have stated, easy to see, the plastic coatings make for no tangles.  Best type of line we've used so far!!

Hi vise braided ice line, then a p line floro leader. I hole hop to, and yes i struggle to keep ice off, but i am not anal retentive and prefer the durability of it so i will clean it every so often with no issue.

I also prefer the sand/tan/pebble type of color. Easy enough to see on the snow but more importantly down the hole when bringing up a good one. I personally can't see black line in the hole.
It must be something in the water.

I much prefer a lighter color line that I can see in the hole. Tried black on some tip ups and I couldn't see it. Red works well, have that on 2 tip ups. I don't think line color matters to fish, I always use a 6 foot leader fishing for trout.

I've always used black because it was what was in the store when I was buying the dacron braid.  I would use green or red but not a fan of tan or other light colors, I think it's too visible in the water.

I had previously used black and green but it was very tough to see. I have switched to Woodstock braid in red and love it for the reasons previously mentioned of being able to see the line in the water. Supposedly red also disappears the fastest in the water column.  I got mine at Cabelas.

Whatever is on sale for me!

I will say that black isn't too easy to see on hard clear ice. Easy to see in the snow or on cloudy ice though.

I use white flyline backing as mainline on my tip ups. I don't really worry about color since I am usually using about a 4 foot leader.
