Those lakers are so well fed its crazy,  we got 10 today on the stix,  it the first time i can remember in a long time that even the shorties, we packed full of smelt.  I yanked a cisco out of a 21 inch lakers mouth that was about 7 inches long,  boy do they like ciscoes,  i tipped my jig with it and they really liked that.

Anyone know if pilot knob developed a pressure ridge, is it passable? Wanted to head out tomorrow before the storm. Thanks

One of the guys at fish 307 said that yesterday on his way off the crack opened up 4-5ft. Said he could only get back off down further south by the YMCA camp.

Good day on the middle/north part of the lake today (except for that WIND!).

The perch bit all day (but mainly dinks) and the lakers were willing, too.  Brought home one eating-size laker (25") out of the five I jigged up, and a half-dozen of the largest perch.

The wind blew me off my first spot and I had to move into the lee of an island for fear my Eskimo Quickflip1 would either get airborne or get shredded.  ;-)

I'm off tomorrow, but the weather looks unfriendly for ice fishing....

Tight lines,
Bob

The lakers were fun today, I love how aggressive they are, iced a bunch of low 20s fish but lost the best one I had on, he had my rod folded right over and felt real nice but lost him 20 ft from the hole

They were really on today; even in the middle of the day.  I lost one at the hole, and another one came off about half-way in.  I think for every one I caught, I saw one eyeballing my jig or had one grab it and spit it.  I wasn't using my lake trout gear... when I want to try to catch lakers and perch, I tie on a size 3 Rapala Jigging Rap, then add a dropper off the treble hanger with a teardrop, Lindy Bug, or 1/80 oz. ballhead jig rigged with plastics and/or grubs.  This requires a reel with a good, smooth drag.  :-)

Tight lines,
Bob

Had a nice weekend. I icefished all last year and only caught 1 laker and mainly targeted perch. I caught 3 lakers this weekend. The only difference between this year and last year was where i bought the bait from. Is there a big difference in bait between shops? FYI i got my bait this weekend from fish 307 and out of respect for the other shop i will leave them anonymous since they have been nothing but great to deal with. I was able to get 22" 24" and a 32" laker today wahoo!

Fished south of PK today inside pressure ridge 65 FOW, I played guide and assisted in landing 3 lakers all on tip-ups.  Could not get the lookers to take the half dozen or so jigs I dropped...guess I need to go to school with Capt.JJ

We saw people out in front of the YMCA Camp and a group or two way out .  My guess is they found safe areas to cross but we were about a mile away to the south.

Adam, I was there yesterday. You cant go out of bixby. The pressure crack is not safe. It was open water yesterday morning. We went down to huddle bay road...thats where to go out of.

We had my 6x8 bolted down in the middle near vets with 10 anchors.....man was it windy as the sun came up.

Went out yesterday . New fishing buddy got a nice laker on ultra light gear, perch fishing, in 40fow. What a blast that was! Got into the perch. Nothing great. Lots of drinks, a few keepers. Good day, inspire of the wind.

Mixed bag of fun last 3 days on the lake.   The lakers are throwing us off a little bit, our traditional spots that have produced our numbers the last 10-15 years have suddenly gone very cold.   I guess thats what makes it interesting.   Gonna put some miles on in the next few weekends trying old and new spots.   The perch were biting really really well the one time we tried.  Ultimately, we did get plenty of Lake Trout, and some bruisers too, just not a lot of the craziness that typifies the early season.

Went out of there Saturday and it's in great shape.  I always park up top and ride down but people were parked in the lower lots.  We'll see what happens after this snowfall if they decide to plow again :-\
