I got some shiners from suds n soda since they were giving them away for free but I was thinking about stopping somewhere on my way north to grab a few smelt and a sucker if available. Is there a bait shop in wolfeboro or somewhere on the way?
-
there are a few in the area depending on where you are coming from.. I don't know what any of these places have now because I haven't been there in a week.. but you have Nutes off of Rt 16... the Alton traffic circle store.. the dive shop In wolfboro and the hole in the wall in wofboro..

I went to the dive shop, hole in the wall, and alton traffic circle and the alton traffic circle had the best and cheapest bait between the 3. Smelt, Med shiners, and suckers. Hole in the wall was not so good. The dive shop had better shiners than the hole in the wall.

2 questions - Where in RI did you live and where in NH did you move to? If I could find similar work I would be up there in a heart beat. My wife is a Pharmacy tech so I know she would not have any issues.

Sharps
We lived in Warwick / buttonwoods section.
Moved to New Boston (rural area - peace and quiet )which is west of manchester / work in Hudson NH ( near mass border)

Where is that? I'm in ND, always looking to support the local economy.
-
I believe it's the road next to Johnson's restaurant towards the ridge.

The bites are pretty slow however there's an amazing amount of smelt hanging out by the river as you can see clouds of them through the holes

X2

are the smelt from the big lakes edible? Are they also legal to catch? just wondering what makes these different than the smelt camps in ME other than salt water. Maybe those are bigger as well?
-
Freshwater smelt are delicious, we used to crush them on Highland Lake in Andover, I believe you are allowed 2 quarts a person. I heard they were catching quite a few on Sunapee this year.
-
Ice was so good I stayed the whole weekend and fished both days. 16" of ice in wolfeboro bay, ended up with two lakers both days

Good work!

The current forecast, except for the snow, is calling for below freezing temps (for the highs) for a number of days.
That could add some ice to areas that are still locked up.
Moultonborough Bay had around 16-18" as of this past weekend.
That's 16-18" of GOOD ice, not frozen crap layers.

yeah its not over i spoke too soon
-
nothing like saying it's your last trip then planning two more trips

All of my gear is put away but man would I love to make 1 more trip of it.....

Just take out the bare minimum that you would need for a "day trip" and go.
I am in a transitional phase, where I took out some open water tackle (for here in MA) but still have the ice gear out.

I completely agree that its not hard to get up there for a day trip even with a 2.5 hour ride. The hard part is finding a baby sitter for the 16 month old. If the ice is good next weekend, there may be a possibility for a quick trip. If not, some skeet is in order.
